On July 14th, 1789, in Paris, France a huge crowd of people stormed to the Bastille, furious at King Louis XIV. The Bastille was a nutorious prison in the late 1700s, and it only held political prisoners, or people that were important. The building started off as a castle and a fortress to protect the city, but by the eighteenth century it was changed to a prison. This was the first time the French citizens ever revolted. Louis XIV was taxing the people so unfairly and ruling their lives without their consent, so it was time for things to change.
This day marks the beginning of the French Revolution and when the citizens attacked, it was a total seige. They had the entire place surrounded and on lock down. And thus the French Revolution was born.
